Beginning or Basic Obedience

Basic Obedience -4 months of age and up

Here at Sequoyah Shepherds we believe that the purchase of a dog is one of the longest commitments that you will ever make.  It is a decision that will usually affect the next 10-12 years of your life.  In our opinion, it is a bigger commitment than the purchase of a house.  If you change jobs, people often have to change houses to be closer to their job.  If you have kids 4-5 years down the road, you often changes houses.  But, what about the dog?  Now that you have added a child to your household, has your dog been properly socialized and trained to accept the newest family member?  Now that you have moved from the "country", into a subdivision, has the dog been taught not to "nuisance bark"?  These are all things that must be considered when you add your new canine family member.

  • Beginning Obedience Group Classes:  For Dogs 4 months of age and older (and their owners).  This class helps pups/dogs master their basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come and leash work (not to pull, auto-sit when owner stops walking, etc.)  It teaches the basic commands that help ensure that the dog is really "man's best friend".  When owners come in with their dogs, we recommend that you have a list of things that you would like to have your dog learn.  Each class is tailor made to fit each group of owners.  We will focus on your individual dog and we can do this by making sure that our classes are small and custom made.  (6 week course of 1 hour long classes each week.)

  • Beginning Obedience One on One ClassesThese classes can start as soon as 8-10 weeks of age.  The big benefit of these classes over the group classes is that we are ONLY focusing on your dog/pup.  The class will only go as fast or as slow as you and your dog can handle.  Often times, though the classes are a little more expensive than group classes, you end up coming out ahead in the end.  Plus, your puppy can start these one on one classes sooner than he/she can start group classes and this will get you and your pup off to a "running" start.

  • Beginning Obedience Daily/Weekly/Monthly Trainer Session:  These sessions are great for people who either don't want to do their own training or simply just don't have the time.  You can bring your puppy in for daily, weekly, or monthly sessions with one of our trainers.  This training methods actually will give you the most gains in the shortest amount of time without a doubt.  Instead of us training you to train your dog, we simply train your dog.  We will set up multiple times throughout the day to work with your dog one on one.  This technique allows us to help your dog excel faster in training because of your dogs attention span.  Just as you yourself would get bored and lose focus in a lecture that drones on and on, so would your dog.  Dogs learn quicker with multiple small sessions rather than one great big LONG one.  After our training sessions then we will show/demonstrate what your dog knows and then work with you to make sure that the two of you are "on the same page".  Once your dog knows his commands and you know his, he will be more than willing to follow your lead.

After "BASIC OBEDIENCE" there will be no more of this.......
